  • Account Information: Name, email address and profile photo when you register.
  • Location Data: GPS location (with your permission) to show nearby trails, places and to power SOS alerts. Only accessed when the app is active.
  • Usage Data: Anonymised data on how you interact with the app to help us improve features.
  • Device Information: Device type, OS version and app version for crash reporting and compatibility.
  • User-Generated Content: Photos, reviews and trail reports you voluntarily submit.

2. How We Use Your Information

  • To provide core features — trail navigation, nearby places, SOS alerts and offline maps.
  • To personalise your experience and recommend trails based on your preferences.
  • To send important notifications such as safety alerts, app updates and service announcements.
  • To analyse usage patterns and improve app performance.
  • To comply with legal obligations and enforce our terms of service.

3. Location Data

  • Location access is requested only when you use trail navigation or SOS features.
  • We do not share your precise real-time location with third parties except in SOS emergencies (shared with your designated contacts and relevant authorities).
  • You can disable location access at any time in your device settings, though this limits core app functionality.

4. Data Sharing

  • We do not sell your personal data to any third party.
  • We may share anonymised, aggregated data with research partners for trail safety and tourism studies.
  • We use trusted third-party services (cloud hosting, analytics) bound by strict data processing agreements.
  • We may disclose data if required by law or to protect the safety of users.

5. Data Retention

  • Account data is retained as long as your account is active.
  • Upon account deletion, personal data is permanently removed within 30 days.
  • Anonymised usage statistics may be retained indefinitely.
  • Cached local data on your device is cleared when you uninstall the app.

6. Your Rights

  • Access: Request a copy of all personal data we hold about you.
  • Correction: Update or correct your account information at any time in app settings.
  • Deletion: Request complete account and data deletion via the Delete Account page or by contacting us.
  • Portability: Request your data in a portable format.
  • Objection: Opt out of non-essential data processing at any time.

7. Security

  • We use industry-standard encryption (TLS/HTTPS) for all data in transit.
  • Passwords are hashed using bcrypt and are never stored in plain text.
  • Access to user data is restricted to authorised personnel only.
  • We conduct regular security audits and vulnerability assessments.

8. Children's Privacy

  • PydhalChalo is intended for users aged 13 and above.
  • We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.
  • If we become aware that a child under 13 has provided personal information, we will delete it promptly.

9. Changes to This Policy

  • We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time.
  • Significant changes will be notified via email or an in-app notification.
  • The effective date at the top of this page will be updated accordingly.
